Biochem and BioTech Research Workshop
An immersive summer research experience for serious BS/MD, BS/DO, and pre-med applicants
Original research is one of the strongest differentiators on a competitive medical school application — and one of the hardest experiences for high school students to access authentically. The NESA Biochem & Biotech Research Workshop changes that.
Over the course of this hands-on program, students complete a fully designed scientific project from hypothesis to results. Participants gain direct exposure to advanced laboratory and analytical techniques used in real biomedical research, working at a pace and depth that mirrors what they'll encounter in undergraduate and medical school laboratories.
What makes this program different
Students don't just learn techniques in isolation — they think, write, and present alongside ISEF winners. These peer interactions sharpen research questions, strengthen methodology, and elevate the way students communicate their work. For applicants targeting BS/MD and other highly selective pathways, this peer environment is as valuable as the bench work itself.
What participants take away
-
A completed, original research project suitable for application essays, interviews, and competitions
-
Working fluency in core biochem and biotech laboratory methods
-
Stronger scientific writing, presentation, and inquiry skills
-
A clearer sense of whether a physician-scientist or research-oriented medical pathway fits their goals
Who it's for
High school students preparing for BS/MD, BS/DO, and competitive pre-med admissions who are ready to engage seriously with science — not just observe it.
